Growing your own fruits and veggies when you are short on space isn’t an impossible dream. With a little planning, and some creativity, you can turn your dreams of having your own garden into a reality.
Here are some tips to help you on your way:
- Choose dwarf variety trees. There are several types of fruit trees that are available in smaller sizes. Apple, fig and plum are great options.
- Create a container garden. Planting containers come in a wide array of shapes and sizes, and you can pick some up at your local hardware store. They can be placed on a patio or balcony- anywhere you have a little extra room for something green to grow. Strawberries are perfect to grow in a window box!
- Repurpose. Believe it or not, but you can recycle cans (think coffee cans) and use them to pot herbs. If you have children, this may be the perfect opportunity to get them involved.
- Consider growing indoors. If you have little to no yard space, choosing a veggie that can be grown indoors may be your best option. You can grow anything from carrots to lettuce to beets to herbs indoors. If it can grow in a pot, you can grow it in your home.
No matter which way you choose, you will be so excited to harvest your bounty and enjoy some garden fresh foods at home.
