Good Neighbor Free Days at the SF Zoo

To celebrate its 90th anniversary, San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is opening its doors to locals with extended hours, special activities and free admission. Bay Area residents will receive free admission on particular dates according to their place of residence. The event is the SF Zoo’s way of being a “good neighbor” and thanking its constituents by letting them enjoy one of Northern California’s most popular family destinations - for free!

Good Neighbor Free Days will take place every Thursday in September and are targeted to different communities each week. Be sure to check the schedule before visiting:

  • Thursday, September 5 – South Bay (San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties)

  • Thursday, September 12 – San Francisco (San Francisco County)

  • Thursday, September 19 – East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties)

  • Thursday, September 26 – North Bay (Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma Counties)

Visitors must bring a valid ID, and each adult must provide proof of residency by providing one of the following:

  • A valid driver's license

  • A valid identification card

  • A utility, phone, or other local bill with your name and address

In addition, the Zoo is open one hour later each Thursday! Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Zoo will also host a special Happy Hour with both child and adult beverages and entertainment from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Take advantage of this wonderful program and get out to the SF Zoo to make friends with the giraffes, zebras, ostriches, grizzlies, lemurs, penguins, and all the rest of the animals!

About the San Francisco Zoo

The mission of San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is to connect people with wildlife, inspire caring for nature and advance conservation action. Open 365 days a year, San Francisco Zoo is home to more than 2,000 exotic, endangered and rescued animals in 100 acres of majestic and peaceful gardens located directly on the Pacific Coast.

The San Francisco Zoo is designed with the underlying belief that nature-focused interaction leads to conservation action. Learning about animals here inspires visitors to care for all wildlife. By connecting program participants to the natural world through our education initiatives, our Education Department inspires appreciation of wildlife and commitment to conservation.
