Rave Recipe-Cold Brew Coffee
Cold brew coffee is a refreshing alternative to your favorite hot morning beverage, especially when the days are warm. Don't be fooled: cold brew coffee is not the same as iced coffee.
Iced coffee has been brewed with hot water and then poured over ice while cold brew coffee is exactly that, brewed with cold or cool water. Brewing coffee in this manner activates the cellular structure of the beans differently than using hot water. This provides a distinct flavor as it extracts different oils than the normal brewing process. So, even with the same beans, you will have two unique flavors depending on whether you brew hot or cold. And, cold brew still retains a high caffeine content, ensuring you will get your much-needed boost!
Tips to cold brewing:
- Use a French Press or make your own using a mason jar and fine metal strainer
- Experts suggest using a single country bean versus a blend
- Coarsely grind the beans
- Place in French Press or mason jar
- Add cold or cool water
- Let stand at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours
- Strain
- Keep refrigerated for up to two weeks (or freeze into ice cubes)
- Dilute with one part cold brew concentrate and two parts water, milk or other liquid
- Sweeten or adjust based on personal preference
